Work inspired by the natural world

Observational of butterflies using coloured pencil, which i felt helped capture the various tones within the patterns effectively.
Observational work of butterflies, completed using 2B and 4B pencil.  I feel this helps to emphasise the dark thick lines upon the butterflies.
As with the above this drawing again looks at butterflies and the patterns upon them, which i feel could translate well into a bold fabric pattern.
Observational of two beetles, completed in coloured pencil.  I used brown ink for the background, which i felt help to draw emphasis to the beetles themselves.  I was particularly fascinated by the colours upon the green beetle, and by its sleek shape.
A look at the work of Alexander Mcqueen, and how several of his collections have been influenced by the natural world, notably butterflies.  My first drawing is completed using fine liners and yellow ink, and the second fine liners onto a plain background.  Each are close ups from his pieces.
This is a look at a section of fabric designed by Matthew Williamson; one of my favorite designers.  I completed the piece using black ink and coloured pencil.
This is a look at some of the work by Eugene Alain Seguy, who's patten designs were heavily influenced  by insects .  I was particular drawn in by the bold colours, and I feel I captured this through the use of coloured pencil and inks.
This is the early development of some of my design work.  I looked particularly at colour blocking, and how it has been featured in the lines of several designers, notably during spring/summer 2011.  Ive included my own sketches, some colour sample and material samples.
I also looked at how designers use stripes whilst developing my work, as i was heavily influenced by the idea given the shape of the beetle I'd looked at during my earlier work.  Again i have included my own sketches and outlined my influences.

This is an idea for one of my own fabric designs.  I was influenced by the bold lines from my observational work, and used inks to capture some of the colours deatured upon various butterflies in an abstract manner.
This is another idea for a fabric pattern, however unlike my other this repeats itself.  I have left this pattern plain, though i also explored the addition of colour in various mediums.

This is one the pieces i created as part of my final piece.  The dress is made from a simple yellow cotton, though i struggled to source the correct shade of yellow.  The black detailing is also in cotton, and the bold shapes are influenced by that of the beetle.
